What to expect during your BBL treatments
A BBL treatment is non-invasive and very tolerable. Your skin will be cleansed and prepped:
Clear ultrasound gel is applied to protect the skin and enhance the transmission of light into the skin.
The chilled applicator will deliver one or two test pulses to give you an idea of how it is going to feel and then the treatment begins.
Initially the BBL handpiece/applicator passes over your skin and feels smooth and warm with quick flashes of light and heat. It will get hotter as you receive more passes.
The feeling is like a light ‘flick’ and throughout the treatment it will change to more of a ‘rubber band snap’ sensation.
There is lots of communication with the technician as you go through the treatment as we check in with you and explain what we are doing. There is the opportunity to ‘spot treat’ any pigmented lesions or small cherry angiomas; this can be a single spicy zap.
We will provide you with sunscreen, a cool spritz, hydrating gel, or even a cold pack if you would like to sit and wait a while with us before leaving.
If you have experienced a traditional IPL treatment you will likely find this much faster and more comfortable.
Say goodbye to your unwanted pigmentation and redness and feel great as your natural, younger skin returns.
Duration
15-60 minutes depending on the area(s) being treated.
Recommended Sessions
Everyone is different. A treatment plan will be created specifically for you so you can plan ahead that takes into account skin concerns and the desired outcome.
Many people see improvement within 1-2 treatments.
Some require a treatment series which may look like:
Approximately 2-4 in the first year for BBL HERO™ (face and body) and BBL Forever Young™ (face). Then 1-2 per year as maintenance.
BBL Skin Tyte II™ (skin tightening), BBL Forever Clear™ (acne) and BBL Forever Bare™ (hair removal) treatments may require more (approximately 6) depending on your skin/hair. We discuss this in your consultation.
Annual or periodic maintenance is a great idea after your initial series is complete, you can discuss this with your clinician.
Before BBL
4 weeks before: avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, self tanner, botox and fillers.
1 week before: Avoid some specific medications (only in consultation with your doctor), and active skincare including retinoids and some chemical exfoliants. We cover this in detail at the consultation.
At the consult: Inform us if you:
have any areas with permanent makeup or tattoos;
are taking any medications or have conditions that cause light sensitivity;
have any health issues that might impact your wound healing response;
have a history of melanoma;
have active skin infections;
have a history of herpes (coldsores) outbreaks;
have a history of keloid scarring.
Full instructions and contraindications will be covered in your consultation.
After BBL
The better you are with your after care, the faster you will see results. Plus, you will likely amplify the results, giving yourself the best possible skin.
Avoid direct sun exposure for 3-4 weeks. Use sunscreen regularly and wear protective clothing to protect you from the sun.
Apply soothing ointments or gels (see our recommended aftercare products in clinic).
Relieve any swelling or redness by applying a cool compress.
Do not rub, scratch or pick treated areas.
Keep away from the heat or anything that makes you sweat for 1-2 days eg excessive exercise, sauna, very hot showers etc.
Keep your skincare simple. Do not use skincare with active ingredients for at least one week after treatment. We have products available to purchase if you require some.
You will be given comprehensive post care instructions to take home after your treatment.

Broadband Light. This is NOT a Brazilian Butt Lift. This is NOT a laser. It is the next generation of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), a light device that delivers wavelengths between 400-1500 nanometers. This light is attracted to, and targets different chromophores in the skin such as pigment (brown/melanin/hair) and fine broken blood vessels and papules (red/vascular). The light penetrates the skin, transforms to heat and damages its target. This triggers a healing response in the body and the body then removes the damaged cells.
BBL and BBL HERO (High Energy Rapid Output) are two different methods of using the same device.
BBL Hero delivers energy and light faster and with less discomfort, great for larger areas. BBL is the more traditional method of delivery, great for smaller areas and spot treatments. Together they offer a wide range of applications with one handpiece and multiple filters. The technology makes them more comfortable and requires fewer treatments than traditional IPL.

Initially the BBL feeling is like a ‘light flick’ and as the heat builds up it can change to more of a ‘rubber band snap’ sensation. There is the opportunity to ‘spot treat’ areas such as pigmented lesions or small cherry angiomas, this can feel like a single spicy zap. But it is a very quick sensation and quite tolerable.

Anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes depending on the treatment area.

BBL treatment plans typically require a series of treatments rather than just one, but in 1-2 treatments you will likely see improvement especially if you have a lot of pigmentation, freckles, sun damage or redness etc.
A treatment plan will be different for everyone, however a typical treatment plan would be an initial series of 2-6. Ideally the series is paired with 1-3 annual maintenance treatments after that.
Skin tightening, acne and hair removal treatments typically require more sessions than vascular or pigment treatments.

Most likely you will be red or flushed and you will feel warm or hot. Everyone is different and some experience this more than others. For some, the colour and heat are gone within 30 minutes to 2 hours, for others it lingers until the end of the day.
Some people experience mild swelling for 1-2 days. You will see a darkening of your pigmentation. If you have a lot of pigmentation it will stand out to you. This darkening will get more intense over the next few days and sometimes it has texture like a tiny crusting, but don’t worry, it will eventually flake off or fade away, typically 5-7 days for the face and up to 2 weeks for the body. Again this varies from person to person.

Wear sunscreen and avoid sun exposure! Don’t go straight off to the gym or the sauna! Try to avoid any activity that heats you up until your skin has settled right down, usually 1-2 days. Do not rub, scratch or pick an dark pigmented flakey areas. Use very simple skincare for a few days or until your skin has settled. Gently re-introduce active serums and exfoliants once your skin has setteled.
Postcare is VERY important. You could end up needing more treatments to achieve your desired outcome if you don’t follow them. Everyone responds differently but if you stick to these recommendations we are positive you will love your result!
You will be given a comprehensive list of post care instructions to take home after your treatment.

It is important to understand both the risks and benefits of any procedure before deciding whether it’s right for you. At Lucere, we take every precaution to keep you safe during your treatments. We are committed to providing a clean and safe environment for our clients. We are committed to professional deveropment training and ongoing education. You can be assured your technician is well trained and educated about treatment settings, science, contraindications, risks and benefits.
BBL is safe and tolerable for most people. BBL Hero's consistent energy output and uniform cooling system ensure a safer and more controlled treatment than traditional IPL technology, minimising the risk of adverse effects.
As with any aesthetic procedure, there are contraindications, and considerations that would make this treatment unsafe for some.
This treatment may not be suitable for you if you are: on some specific medications; immune compromised; sensitive to flashing lights and more. We cover this comprehensively in your consultation before going ahead with any treatments.
Risks are: bruising, burns, blistering, hair loss on treated area, inflammation, redness, swelling, scarring and uneven skin tone caused by hyper/hypo pigmentation. In the unfortunate case this happens, the skin will likely return to normal over an extended period of time. However in rare circumstances, this may be permanent.
BBL treatment is not recommended for Fitzpatrick skin type 6, very dark skin, which has more light-absorbing melanin which increases the risk of a burn. Very tanned skin types (fitzpatrick skin types 4-5) can be treated with lower settings and with caution. We will determine your skin type in the consultation.
Unprotected eyes are at risk of injury during BBL treatments. It is ESSENTIAL you wear the protective eyewear we give you during the treatment.
