Pigmentation… ever thought about it?

As you’ve aged have you noticed sun spots, age spots and other background browns on your skin?  It might be quite noticeable or maybe a very dark patch.  Maybe pregnancy, hormones or medications have caused you a tea-stain like pigment called melasma. Maybe you have lots of freckles, moles, birthmarks and other interesting things on your skin!

There’s a large array of pigment and it all lies either on the surface or at a deeper layer of your skin. Either way It’s all various forms of pigmentation! And for many reasons, the melanin our body produces, can get us really worked up!

When I was growing up you didn’t question it.. it was either pigment or see someone with a scalpel! And because there were no non-invasive options, I don’t think people thought too much about it. I also remember my sun-worshipping grandparents with their patchy pigmented skin! - it was beautiful skin and I loved it. That was just how it was.

But now, with amazing technology, pigment can be cleared. And the best part is, it is easy with little to no ‘downtime’, or time needed to recover. It’s truly non-invasive!

I guess some might wonder why anyone would want to remove pigment? Hey, we've all got our reasons! If it annoys you, or if it would give you a lift in confidence to remove it. That's reason enough. If you’re not bothered, then all power to you!

Let’s insert a little health and safety note here: Melanoma is sneaky and sometimes that seemingly innocent spot or lesion is a lethal weapon. So, skin cancer checks are important before you start removing any pigment. If something cancerous is cleared from the surface, you might miss an early detection of what’s going on below! It’s obviously not worth it! Lucky for us at Lucere, our neighbours in Lansdowne Village are skin cancer experts. Read about them here.

Now, back to being annoyed by the evidence appearing… of that time when your teenage ‘life’s mission’ was to get a tan (anyone else guilty of using baby oil and sun-in back in the 90s?)… Now you’re in your 40’s and the pigment party has arrived?  Isn’t it so cool to know you can clear your skin from the sun damage and at the same time rejuvenate your skin!

Check out this clinical study if you like research - our BBL Forever Young treatment is proven to delay skin ageing! Sounds like a hoax but it's real! At this stage, no other device has that kind of scientific study to back up the efficacy of the treatment. That's one of the big reasons why top plastic surgeons, doctors, dermatologists and aesthetic clinicians are choosing Sciton devices. We are very proud to do the same!

It might be worth saying here that it is possible to buy a device claiming to do the same things on foreign websites for a fraction of the cost. My message is BEWARE!! Ask about the technology being used before you let someone touch you with it! It is a disaster, likely in the shape of a burn, waiting to happen. Cheap technology often dosen’t have safe settings, adequate cooling or approvals from the FDA for example. They also have no clinical studies or research to back their treatments, it’s the classic counterfeit scheme but with serious implications.

Sciton’s BBL device is the go-to machine for removing pigment. Have a look at our bookings page for what kind of BBL treatment you could select. Treatments are best in a series but many people experience pure delight after one treatment saying how amazing their skin looks and feels.

And that’s not all folks… the BBL tackles browns, AND REDS! Yes those pesky tiny vessels and capillaries, or the redness and rosacea in our skin … but that’s a blog post for another day!

Stay tuned!  Caroline x
